Senator Davis is a jerk and unlikable in every possible way, while other new characters assume well-worn archetypes, but remain one-dimensional. In fact, the latter half of the film feels like it's actually divided into different levels, with a grotesque, evolving end boss to top it off.Īside from the two main leads, Claire and Leon, the new additions to the RE cast aren't particularly well developed. The flow of the film tends to consist of the shooting of waves of zombies, followed by some awkward dialogue, much like in the games. The visuals, animation, and voice-acting all scream videogame cut scene, but the movie also emulates its source material. While watching the events unfold, it's hard to get over how much Degeneration feels like a videogame. Kennedy takes a small team-who seem convinced that the crash is terrorism related-to save the Senator, and end up taking on the other survivors as well. Leading this team is none other than, trumpets please, Leon S. Thankfully for the rest of the non-zombie airport dwellers, Davis' clout results in a rescue team being sent in to save the survivors. So yeah, not a good day to be flying.Ĭlaire is not the only one trapped in the zombie infested airport, as Senator Ron Davis is stuck as well. Even worse, the passengers on an incoming plane become infected, causing the plane to crash into the airport, releasing a steady stream of walking dead. Unfortunately for Claire, while meeting a friend at the airport a zombie shambles by and begins quickly infecting the crowd. The film sets up the story through a series of news reports that help bring viewers up to speed with the goings on of the RE universe.

Set seven years after the events of Raccoon City, Degeneration brings back a pair of faces that should be familiar to RE fans: Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy. But with Resident Evil: Degeneration, Capcom and Sony Pictures have crafted a movie that stays true to the games, but ends up feeling like little more than a prolonged cut-scene. While those movies shared some similar characters, locations, and scenarios with the games they were based on, they eventually strayed far away from the story of the source material. The Resident Evil franchise is certainly no stranger to the world of film, with a trilogy of live-action movies having hit theaters over recent years.
